Add a Question Pool

From eLearning Wiki

There are three ways you can add a question pool:

  • Add a new pool manually.
  • Create using markup text - Add a question pool by formatting questions and copying and pasting them into Isidore.
  • Import pool - Import a pool using a file.

Adding a New Pool Manually

Please see a video demonstration of this process:

To create a question pool manually:

  1. Navigate to the Tests & Quizzes tool in your Isidore course site.
  2. Click on Question Pools.
  3. Click on Add New Pool.
  4. Enter a pool name. It's most helpful to include your class in the pool name so you can easily identify them (for example, BIO 101 - Animal Kingdom) and click on Save.
  5. If you don't see the name of the new pool you created, click on the Assessments tab and then click on the Question Pools tab.
  6. Click on the name of the new pool you're creating.
  7. Click on Add Question.
  8. Select a question type and click on Save.
  9. Depending on which question type you selected, you'll need to enter information like point value, question text, incorrect/correct answer choices, and feedback. When you're done editing the question, click on Save.
  10. Continue adding questions until you've built the question pool.
  11. Once you've added questions to the pool and reviewed your work, the question pool is ready to be used within an assessment.

Adding an Assessment Using Markup Text

Before following the steps below, format your text file by following the Format Questions for Markup Text instructions.

To create a question pool using markup text:

  1. Navigate to the Tests & Quizzes tool in your Isidore course site.
  2. Click on Add.
  3. Enter an assessment title.
  4. Select the "Create using markup text" option.
  5. Click on Create.
  6. Outside of Isidore, open the formatted text file that contains the questions, point values, correct answers, and answer choice options.
    • Select all of the text by highlighting it.
    • Copy all of the text.
  7. In Isidore, click into the text box and paste the text you copied into it.
  8. Click on Next.
  9. Review your questions, answers, and point value to ensure no corrections need made. If corrections are needed, click on the Back button near the bottom of the page. If everything looks good, click on the Create Question Pool button.
  10. If you don't see the name of the new pool you created, click on the Assessments tab and then click on the Question Pools tab.
