Grading Forum Postings

Create a Gradebook Item

Before following the other directions on this page, you must first create an item in the Gradebook to link the forum posting grades to; for instructions, see Add/Edit/Delete Gradebook Items.

Setting Up Forums and Topics for Grading

To setup grading in forums and topics:

  1. Navigate to the Forums tool in your Isidore site.
  2. Click on either Forum Settings or Topic Settings next to the forum or topic you want linked to the gradebook item.
  3. Expand the "Grading" section and select the gradebook item you created from the drop-down menu. If the item doesn't yet appear, you may need to refresh the Forums tool and repeat these steps.
  4. Scroll down and click on the Save button once you've selected the gradebook item.

Grading Forum Posts

To grade an individual student's post:

  1. Navigate to the Forums tool in your Isidore course site.
  2. Click the title of the topic.
  3. Find and click the individual message to grade, and then click the Grade link at the top of the message.
  4. Enter a point value for a grade and any comments.
  5. When you're finished, click Submit Grade.

To grade several or all students' posts:

  1. Navigate to the Forums tool in your Isidore course site.
  2. Click on Statistics & Grading.
  3. Click on Statistics & Grading by Topic.
  4. Click on a topic title or a forum title.
  5. You may either click on the Grade link next to each individual student to enter scores and comments, or you can select the gradebook item from the drop-down menu to grade all students.
    • If you've selected a gradebook item, point text boxes will be displayed where you can enter numeric scores for students, enter zeros by applying grades to all ungraded, and then click on the Submit Grades button.
  6. The scores should now be updated in Gradebook.
