Use Date Manager

From eLearning Wiki

The Date Manager gives instructors the ability to update dates quickly in their course sites.

Please note that there is no undo option - once dates are set, you can't revert them or clear them out, but you can update them again.

Adjust Dates Using the "Shift By" Feature

The "shift dates by" feature allows you to bump all dates within your site by a set number of days.

NOTE: This feature can only update dates that are set in the system, not dates manually typed in by the user such as within assignment instructions, page titles, etc.

See a step-by-step video of this process:

  1. If you haven’t already done so, we recommend first following the steps to duplicate your site to the new semester.

  2. Navigate to the Site Info tool in your site and click on the Date Manager tab.

  3. Evaluate the existing dates in your site by expanding each tool to determine which dates you want to shift forward. You probably do NOT want to shift the dates for the Calendar or Announcements tools, but it would make sense to shift dates for Assignments, Tests & Quizzes, Lessons, and Forums.

  4. Determine the number of days to shift by.
    • Find the earliest date in your class from the previous semester and match it to the equivalent date in the next semester. For example, if the first Lesson for the class opened on August 23rd, 2021, I would then want the first Lesson for the class in the next semester to open on January 10th, 2022.
    • Use the date duration calculator to determine the number of days in between those two dates. Hint: do NOT select the "Include end date in calculation" option.
Steps to Calculate Number of Days using Date Calculator
  1. Once you have the number of days to shift by, make sure to expand only the tools to which you’d like to apply the date shift.

  2. Type in the number of days to shift by and click the “Apply to expanded sections only” button.

Using the Shift By Feature
  1. Spot check a few dates to see if the dates shifted as you would expect. If the dates mostly look correct, press Save Changes at the bottom. If they do not, just press Cancel.

    • NOTE: If it turns out your dates are not correct and you have already pressed Save Changes, you can "undo" the action by shifting the dates by putting a minus sign in front of the number (e.g. -140) and applying it.

  2. Fine-tune any dates that need to be adjusted to account for a different academic calendar. Refer to our Module Date Planner to see all the dates for the semester.

Adjust Dates Manually

  1. Navigate to the Site Info tool in your Isidore course site.
  2. Click on the tool link to expand the section and view items within that tool.
  3. Click on the calendar icon to edit dates with the date picker by selecting year, then month, then day. Use the time sliders or + and - buttons to adjust times.
  4. You can update the dates of multiple tools at the same time.
  5. When you're done making changes, click on the Save Changes button near the bottom of the page.
  6. If the dates have been successfully updated, a confirmation message will be displayed on the screen.
    • If some dates couldn't be updated, an error message will be displayed on the screen. Check the date and time format to make sure it's correct and click on Save Changes again. You may need to update these dates manually.
